White Wax is one of those finishing products that quietly transforms everything it touches. Applied over Chalk Paint®, it lifts colour to something softer and more luminous — brightening whites and pale tones, adding a gentle milky warmth to mid-tones, and creating a beautifully aged, chalky finish that feels entirely intentional.

It is the wax to reach for when you want a piece to feel light, romantic, and full of quiet character. Layered over Clear Wax, it adds a subtle whitening effect that is easy to control and deeply satisfying to work with. Used on its own, it settles into the texture of the paint and creates a finish that looks as though it has been loved for decades.

How to Use White Wax

Apply with a wax brush or lint-free cloth, working in small sections and buffing as you go. For a more pronounced whitened effect, apply generously and leave for a few minutes before buffing back. For something subtler, apply sparingly over a coat of Clear Wax and blend until you find the depth you're after. Always allow wax to cure fully before heavy use.

Everything You Need to Know About Annie Sloan Wax

What Makes Annie Sloan Wax Different

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® Wax is specifically formulated to work with Chalk Paint®, penetrating the porous surface to protect and seal while enhancing the natural matte finish. Unlike varnishes or lacquers, wax gives a soft, hand-finished quality that improves with age and buffing.

  • Protects and seals Chalk Paint® on furniture and decorative pieces
  • Enhances the matte, chalky finish without adding plastic shine
  • Easy to apply and blend — no specialist tools required
  • Can be layered and combined with other Annie Sloan waxes for custom effects
  • Improves with buffing over time

Common Questions About Annie Sloan Wax

Do I have to use wax?
Wax is optional on purely decorative pieces. For furniture that sees daily use — chairs, tables, drawer fronts — wax or lacquer protection is recommended.

Can I use White Wax over any colour?
Yes. The effect varies depending on the base colour — most visible over mid and dark tones, subtler over pale colours.

How long does wax take to cure?
Allow 24 hours before light use and up to 5 days for full hardness on high-traffic surfaces.
