I am going to be completely honest with you — Metal Leaf is one of my absolute favourite things to work with. There is something almost magical about the moment you lay a sheet of gold onto a freshly painted surface and watch it transform. It is instant, it is dramatic, and it never gets old.
I use it constantly. On furniture, on frames, on small decorative pieces — a flash of gold on a dark painted cabinet, a sweep of copper across a carved detail, a glint of silver on something unexpected. It is the finishing touch that makes people stop and ask how you did it.
Annie Sloan Metal Leaf is available in Gold, Silver, and Copper, and in two forms to suit the way you like to work. Loose Leaf is the traditional form — beautifully delicate, perfect for organic and textured application, and deeply satisfying to use. Transfer Leaf is attached to a backing sheet, making it easier to handle and ideal for more precise or detailed work. Both give a stunning result, and once you start using Metal Leaf, I promise you won't stop.
How to Use Metal Leaf
Apply Annie Sloan Gold Size to the surface and allow it to reach the correct tack — it will turn from milky white to clear when it's ready. For Loose Leaf, use a soft brush to lift and lay the sheets gently onto the sized surface. For Transfer Leaf, press the backing sheet firmly onto the sized area and peel away slowly. Seal the finished surface with Clear Wax or Lacquer to protect and preserve the effect.
