Clear Wax is the foundation of every Annie Sloan finish — the first step, the base coat, and the product that makes everything else possible. Applied directly over Chalk Paint®, it seals and protects the surface while preserving the beautiful matte, chalky quality that makes the paint so distinctive. It is the wax you will reach for on every single project.
On its own, Clear Wax gives a soft, natural finish that lets the true colour of the paint speak for itself. It adds a gentle sheen when buffed — not glossy, not plastic, just the quiet glow of a well-finished piece. It is also the essential base coat before applying any of the tinted waxes — Dark, Black, or White — giving you control over how they sit and blend on the surface.
How to Use Clear Wax
Apply with a wax brush or lint-free cloth, working in small sections and buffing as you go. Use circular motions to work the wax into the paint, then buff with a clean cloth to bring up the finish. For a higher sheen, buff more vigorously once the wax has begun to set. Always apply Clear Wax before any tinted wax for best results and maximum control. Allow 24 hours before light use and up to 5 days for full cure.
Beautiful With
Every colour in the Annie Sloan range — Clear Wax is the universal finishing step that works beautifully across the entire palette, from the palest Old White to the deepest Athenian Black.
Coverage & Application
Available in 120ml and 500ml tins. The 120ml is ideal for smaller projects and sampling; the 500ml is the studio staple that belongs in every painter's kit. Apply with a wax brush or cloth, buff to finish, and allow 24 hours before light use and up to 5 days for full cure.
